It’s hard to believe I’ve already completed my Freshman year of college. It seems like just yesterday I was moving into my dorm, attending my first classes, and really learning how to become self-sufficient. It’s been a year full of challenges, and I’ve taken each one head-on. I’ve learned a lot about myself, and grown so much in the process. Looking back to a year ago, I can hardly believe how far I’ve come. I’m more confident, fearless, and willing to take risks. The people I’ve met along the way have certainly impacted my path, and I’m so thankful for that. From rushing my sorority, to becoming a part of the junior Panhellenic Board,  becoming an active member of Cal Poly’s Greek community has taught me how to balance my schoolwork with my extracurriculars. It’s so rewarding being a part of these organizations, and it makes me so happy to know that I’m just getting started.

Of course, I can’t forget about my classes. I think one of my favorite parts of the year was becoming a part of the Design & Business Collaboration. It was an interesting experience, to say the least, but it was definitely a good one. The schedule may have been a little  awkward, but it was really nice to be in classes with all of the same people. It’s where I found my roommate for this year, along with some really great friends. Our study group was unstoppable, and we definitely brought the term “collaboration” to life. When it came to studying, we were all in it together, and it made each of us better in the process. Winter and Spring Quarter also brought challenges of their own. Unfortunately, the Design & Business Collaboration only lasted for one Quarter. Luckily, a lot of people I met in the collaboration ended up being in some of my classes, so I never felt like I was alone.

And then of course there were my stellar roommates. I honestly don’t know how I would have gotten through the year without them. They were there through the highs and the lows, and loved me even though my desk was clean and organized for probably three days out of the entire year- and that was when they helped me clean it. Born with hearts of gold, I’m so glad they won’t be too far from me in the fall.

All in all, it was a good year. I made mistakes, I learned from them, I moved on. I made some wonderful friends, and I already know they’ll be with me through it all. I can’t wait to see what adventures next year brings.
